The Annual International Conference on Metagenomics

Dear Colleague,

A new interdisciplinary science, driven by the convergence of modern sequencing and computing technologies, is emerging. The science has become known as Metagenomics. I invite you to get involved in this adventure, beginning with presenting your company and its enabling products to attendees at our International Congress on Metagenomics, which this year is Metagenomics 2008 / MG08.

Metagenomics research already has discovered many new species and a vast number of new genes, provided insight into applications for bioenergy and bio-remediation, and gives us hope to solve world-wide problems such as ensuring human wellbeing and providing novel energy sources.

Metagenomics is the direct analysis of communities of microbes from the environment. By analyzing the sequencing of the microbial genomes within an environmental sample; researchers are able to detect species that have not yet been documented and often cannot be cultured.

UCSD's Annual International Metagenomics Congress brings together leading researchers in microbial ecology, genomics and evolution, bioinformatics, biogeochemistry, structural biology, and a variety of environmental sciences. The meeting reflects the rapid advances in the field; each year we have had great enthusiasm from the participants, who are world leaders in exploring this new research frontier.

Research will be presented on how multiple organisms in these communities interact with each other and with their environment. Other discussions include standards and interoperability of data sets, policy considerations for advancing the community and much more. Demonstrations and tutorials on knowledgebase resources will also be provided.

The 3rd UCSD Annual International Metagenomics Congress, or Metagenomics 08, November 3-7, 2008 will bring together Researchers, Industry, and Philanthropy to share ideas, describe progress, and sustain and expand the Metagenomics community: http://metagenomics.calit2.net/ .

We have set the contribution for display tables and other levels of engagement to cover only associated costs so academia and industry can move together as fully engaged partners. In particular, this is the first year we have included a session on aspects of novel technology, since we believe the community should track the ongoing rapid advances.

For US$1000 per day you are welcome to a display table and access to specialists from industry, academia, and philanthropy as they join together to create a new science. You will be a bronze sponsor if you contribute $5000 or book a table for a week; silver (10K), gold (15K) and platinum (25K) sponsorships are available and would confer increasing involvement, access and participation, including a hyperlink and other visibility such as presentation of a product demonstration or tutorial. Sponsorship of the banquet and other options can be considered as well. In addition, as metagenomics emerges as a new science, we would look forward to working with you to ascertain how a partnership could develop most effectively.
